Web Site Redesign

With the Sun Valley vacation condo completed and rented (woo hoo!) it was time to turn my attention back to updating my digital self. After a bit of file wrangling I found a pattern and look I liked, and this site redesign is the result. The portfolio is a pretty good reflection of my design style.

This is a WordPress site. The redesign process started in September 2014 when I took a weekend workshop at Mighty Minnow in Oakland, CA. I was already using WordPress, but I took this course to make learning about WordPress more sociable. It is also why I’ve now signed up for local WordPress meetups. It’s a way to invite others into the mix, exchange ideas, learn from others, and network. Basic ingredients to innovation, and ones I’m applying to my own work habits.

I learned about Mighty Minnow and the workshop from running through the Adobe MAX presenter list. I went to the class en-route back from Sun Valley, Idaho, squeezing what I could from the commute. Adobe MAX followed the workshop–in October, and in L.A. Both the workshop and the conference helped change and elevate my design path. I learned more than I expected I would.

The site redesign was put on hold until the condo was finished. (Check.) Now both are completed. (Check. Check.) Next on the list is to design an app I’ve been plotting out. At Adobe MAX I learned that inDesign, a software I knew intimately for print back in the day, is the go to software for digital publishing content creation. And it looks like the interactivity of it works much like what I know from Flash, or Acrobat. I didn’t follow this development, but I sure will now. This stuff looks very accessible.
In the meantime, I’ve completed a PHP course and am looking into coding more. The following small personal sites that helped me learn a few things full page imagery:
